New Zealand / Oceania Football Confederation licensed and experienced football Head Coach with over 8+ years experience at International and Premier League level, across both elite senior male and female teams.

Asher is the current Head Coach for the New Zealand Māori Women’s National Team, Head Coach for the Samoa Under-20 Women’s National Team, and Performance Coach for the Samoa Men’s National Team.
He has most recently supported Samoa in their history-making FIFA World Cup Qualifiers against Vanuatu, Tahiti, and New Zealand.

Asher has proven experience building multiple high performance environments from zero.
As Head Coach, he developed a club’s entire NRFL Premier League senior programme and has supported the rapid growth and success of an indigenous national team on the world stage as one of its first Head Coach appointments.

Highly respected and active within the Pacific region’s coaching networks, Asher represents both New Zealand Football, Oceania Football Confederation, and Māori Football as a Licensed Coach Educator as well as supporting FIFA as a Mentor for aspiring Advanced Coach Educators.

From a community pathway (circa 2018) to a complete high performance environment competing with NRFL Premier League Firsts and Reserves, winning 4X trophies, unbeaten seasons, cups, and promotions along the way — Asher shares his experiences and learnings in this exclusive blog series.

In February 2025, Asher designed and led the Maori Women’s National Team to a historic 3-0 win against the Fiji Women’s National Team. In this series, Asher shares what it takes to build and deploy a deeply meaningful international campaign with limited resources, balancing key cultural and performance objectives.
“I am so grateful to have such a coach as you. Thank you for your patience, kindness, and support you have given the team. Even on tough days, sick, rain or shine, you never fail to show up. You have been such a great role model to us all. With all your consistency, motivation, and determination to get the team across the line.”

We have had so many [people] comment on how much she has improved this year. Just a little belief from a coach and club is all it takes. Again thank you, thank you, thank you.”

“Since being coached by you [my daughter’s] passion has returned to the point where she was mad when you didn’t play her because it was best for her well-being. […] You have gained something so much respect, loyalty and admiration from players, supporters and anyone that has been involved with you. You have my heartfelt thanks.”

“For the first time in the club’s long history, this is a surreal moment for a very, very special group of people. Nearly four years in the making since Head Coach, Asher Trotter, joined the club — of which this is only the second full season that has been played since 2019 due to the pandemic.”
